2012 Jan Taiwan Itinerary

If you ask me, what’s the main highlight for 2012 Jan Taiwan trip ?

– Celebrate New Year’s eve at Taipei 101

– Feast at ‘No Menu’ Yilan restaurant

– Experience 3D2N Hualien in a different way

– Experience Taipei Luxury Car Motel

– Join in the Chinese New Year festive market at Dihua Street

Transportation was mainly via public transport (bus or train), taxi for Yilan attractions and 2 days with guided tour. Also, hitched some free rides from minsu. Haha !

Below is my itinerary:

Day 1 – Singapore to Taipei (Taipei Master Inn Accomodation)

For this trip, we planned to celebrate the New Year Eve at Taipei. The arrangement for accomodation on 31 Dec was a nightmare. The hotels were fully booked by November. Finally, I managed to find a apartment accomodation at Taipei Main Station, but the room cost was double the normal rate.

Read here for the New Year fireworks and Taipei Master Inn Accomodation. Of course, the fireworks was fantastic !

We managed to get back to our accomodation around 1am plus which I thought was pretty fast.

Day 2 – Taipei to Yilan via coach (Beautiful Ilan Minsu)

Next day, we took the coach to Luodong. This 2D1N Yilan trip (read here) was mainly to try out the No Menu restuarant.

We were lucky to have the minsu boss picking us at train station and even gave us a lift to the No Menu restaurant.

At night, we went to the famous Luodong Night Market.

Day 3 – Yilan to Hualien

We had a lazy morning – chit chat with the minsu boss and another couple who also stayed at the minsu. We left around noon to catch the train to Hualien.

My plan was to do food hunting after checking into the See the Railway minsu. The minsu was located in the heart of hualien city. Pretty convenient ! They also gave us a map that indicated all the local food. Read here for the Hualien food hunting !

Day 4 & 5 – Hualien 2 days Tour

The next two day in Hualien was guided tour by XiaoXi who was our driver cum guide. Read here for the Hualien 2 days tour.

For this Hualien trip, I have stayed in 3 different minsu. Read here for review on Happy Ocean Minsu.

My last night in Hualien, we stayed at Echo Villa minsu. This minsu was not too far from hualien city, but needed a cab to the city area. They also provided free pick-up and drop-off service at train station. I also loved this minsu as the room was all full glass windows.

Day 6 – Hualien to Taipei

We took the train back to Taipei around noon. After leaving our luggages at Mia hotel, we went for afternoon tea at Miramar Garden hotel. We bought a voucher for a 9 square plate afternoon snack with 2 drinks of your choice, and a platter of fruits.

In the evening, we went to Miramar shopping centre. Our hotel for the night was the anticipating car motel – Mulan Motel. (We arranged to put our luggages at Mai Hotel first and brought an overnight bag instead)

Day 7 & 8 – Free & easy in Taipei.

Read here for Taipei Mai hotel review.

Our 2 days f&e in Taipei. We also went to Royal Seasons at Beitou for private room hotspring. I still preferred the Jiaoxi hotspring as I could feel my skin smoother.

During these 2 days in Taipei, we went to two cafes – Melange Cafe & Dazzling Cafe.

We also had the opportunity to visit the Chinese New Year market at Dihua Street. We went in the morning, around 10am plus. Around noon, it was super crowded. Do make a visit to experience the CNY festival mood !
